ISFP Personality Type

The CQ Team · 6 min read · Oct 16, 2026

ISFP means Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving. What ISFPs are like, strengths and blind spots, how rare they are, and the work that tends to fit.

ISFPs live by quiet personal values, notice beauty in the here and now and would rather show who they are than say it. ISFPs were 6.7% of Americans in the Myers-Briggs Company's 2018 sample, number 6 of 16 from most common.

What are ISFPs like?

An ISFP leads with introverted feeling, a strong private sense of what matters and what feels right. It is backed by extraverted sensing, which makes them alert to colour, texture, sound and the moment they're in. They tend to be gentle, loyal and more independent than they first appear.

How ISFPs process the world, in order

Introverted feeling: Leads: a private sense of what matters

Extraverted sensing: Supports: full attention to the here and now

Intuition (direction varies): Third: the third process

Extraverted thinking: Least developed: organising the world to get results

Order from the Myers & Briggs Foundation, which leaves the direction of the third process open.

Strengths, and what to watch for

Every strength on the left has a shadow on the right. Knowing the pair is more useful than knowing either half.

What work tends to suit an ISFP?

Type theory points ISFPs towards work that uses their leading process. Treat it as a starting point: the test's publisher says there have been no meaningful studies of type predicting job performance, and that using type to decide who gets a job is unethical (MBTI Facts).
