ENTP Personality Type

The CQ Team · 6 min read · Oct 16, 2026

ENTP means Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. What ENTPs are like, strengths and blind spots, how rare they are, and the work that tends to fit.

ENTPs love a new problem, argue both sides for fun and spot the angle nobody else saw. ENTPs were 3.0% of Americans in the Myers-Briggs Company's 2018 sample, number 13 of 16 from most common.

What are ENTPs like?

An ENTP leads with extraverted intuition, a constant stream of possibilities and connections. It is backed by introverted thinking, which tests those ideas for logic. ENTPs are quick, outspoken and bored by routine, and they rarely do the same thing the same way twice.

How ENTPs process the world, in order

Extraverted intuition: Leads: spotting possibilities and connections

Introverted thinking: Supports: an inner model that has to be consistent

Feeling (direction varies): Third: the third process

Introverted sensing: Least developed: a detailed memory of what has worked

Order from the Myers & Briggs Foundation, which leaves the direction of the third process open.

Strengths, and what to watch for

Every strength on the left has a shadow on the right. Knowing the pair is more useful than knowing either half.

What work tends to suit an ENTP?

Type theory points ENTPs towards work that uses their leading process. Treat it as a starting point: the test's publisher says there have been no meaningful studies of type predicting job performance, and that using type to decide who gets a job is unethical (MBTI Facts).
